The Bengali Cultural Society was formed in 1978 with the objective to promote and sustain cultural, religious, charitable, educational, and literary activities, and to provide a forum for exchanging ideas and views with various national and international organizations of similar interest. With that objective in mind we celebrate Durga Puja and Saraswati Puja each year. In other activities we publish 'Sanskriti' - the magazine of the BCS. Various social programs are held throughout the year to preserve and cultivate our fine and treasured culture. Under the umbrella of BCS, a committee was formed (Planning and Development Committee) to develop a plan for the long-term structure of our own society and to steer it to that end. A Bengali Language School was established and Scholastic Aptitude Test tutorials started. We are also very active on building our own Community Center project. Also, we have extended our effort to raise funds for various charitable organizations to India . Our hope for the future is to let our society be the ideal for the country that is already a melting pot for millions with their manifold heritage and tradition. Let our amity and endearment be the common denominator for all around us. Let the continuous awareness of our proud heritage provide self-confidence and dignity in our children. Bengali Cultural Society of Southern New Jersey is a non-profit organization under Section 501(a) of the IRS Code Section 501(c)(3).
